From Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor

On the 17th of July 1917 the British royal family changed its name from Saxe-Coburg Gotha to Windsor fearing that during the Great War against the Hun the name wasn’t patriotically British enough, No shit Sherlock!!!!! As the birth of another French/Welsh/Scottish/Dutch/German/Greek royal baby/drain on society`s necessary resources (delete where applicable) has come and gone it seems quite pertinent to consider how British the royal family are and how that perspective of a “British” royal family is portrayed within society.

They are often used as part of the little Englander thing by the UKIP/EDL types with their muslamic (sic) ray guns, xenophobia and all things British are best outlooks. All sat in a pub, wearing clothes made in India, with their great British pint (ie German beer in a Chinese glass) whilst sat on Swedish flat pack furniture before going for a curry in a German manufactured taxi they’ve ordered via their Korean made phones. It could be argued they are a genuinely true reflection of the melting pot society in some cases. Captain Blackadder summed it up quite succinctly:-

Capt Darling: I`m as British as Queen Victoria

Capt Blackadder : So your fathers German, You`re half German and you married a German
